Different types of wood have different properties. By combining them, you get the best out of each.

Why combine?

  • Some woods give off a lot of heat (such as Mopane), others a lot of flavour (such as Swarthaak).

  • Mixing gives you control over your fire and the flavor.

When to combine?

  • For long sessions: start with Sekelbos and build up to Kameeldoring.

  • For flavour: combine Mopane with Swarthaak for heat and aroma.

  • For direct grilling: Sekelbos alone or with Swarthaak.

Which combinations work well?

  • Sekelbos + Mopane = smooth start, long burning time

  • Kameeldoring + Swarthaak = slow burning, deep smoky flavor

  • Mopane + everything = always a solid base

Tip from the barbecue master

Use a maximum of two types at a time. This way you maintain control and learn to understand fire.
